Animal is one Muppet who really rocks. His character is based on Keith Moon of The Who. He is the wild and crazy drummer in the famous Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Band.
Animal's entire existence can be summed up in three words: Women! Food! Drums! For example: the title of his last book eaten is "The Musicians' Guide to Drums, Women & Food". His favorite expressions: "Louder!", "Food now!" and "Want Woman!". Not surprisingly, he makes sure to never leave home without an appetite.
In the Spring of 1954 Jim Henson, the original creator of The Muppets, was hired by WTOP, a local tv station in Washington DC. At the age of seventeen, Jim aired his first puppets.
On November the 10th 1956 the Muppets were guests on The Steve Allen Show. It was their first time on network tv.
The Electric Mayhem came into existence in 1976 to do a gig in the Muppet Theatre as a show band. They have also made appearances in several movies and TV specials, and they have cut some studio tracks on other albums. Animal, Floyd, Zoot and Janice also played in the Muppet Show pit band, performing the opening and closing themes and underscoring most of the Muppet Show performances.
