Steve Wellard
Birth date: January 04 1963
Country: United Kingdom
pageviews: 628

Born in Poole Dorset UK started playing the Trumpet & piano at age 13 at secondary school then took drum lessons with Chris Sings, an army professional drummer, & swopped to the drums at age 16.

Joined first band "ilusion" at 15 in 1978 with one gig under our belts we split. I then joined the Paul Savage Stage Band on Trumpet and swopped to the drums when the original drummers (Dave Hassely & Paul Meadows) left. I gigged with the 32 piece Big Band for some time until it's final demise in 1986

Then joined Pulse, a covers band, for functions etc which eventually become NRG before splitting up. The lead singer, Simon Rawlings, went on to play the Big Bopper in the West end show of "Buddy".

After some time with a 13 peice soul band called "Dozen Matter" I hooked up with Stuart Crouch, a talented vocalist and songwriter, and from this Bam Bam was formed with whom I spent over 12 years. We had Shaun Williamson guest with us several times as vocalist.

Simon Foster, a singer with "Dozen Matter" went on to star in the west end with "The Blues Brothers Show" and then produced the touring version.

As a drum music reader I have played in many amateur and professional stage productions: Carousel, Oh What A Lovely War, Little shop of horrors, Godspell, The Wiz and Jesus Christ Superstar to name but a few.

There have been other bands and artists intersparsed whilst playing with these bands, most noteably Julie Milton, Ten K Mix, Mice no Lime, Chris Martin (not Coldplays one) & State of Grace.

A sample of my playing also appears on a promo 12" vinyl release from the early 90s by a dance act called "Helicopter" rock uprising.

Currently I am with 2 bands: The Bams & Flipside both of whom are gigging across Kent & S E London.

I am influenced by all types of music from rock, Dance, D n B and more. I am always looking for a new challenge and opportunities to "expand and develop" my horizons.

I am experienced in utilising electronic percussion and click/backing tracks.

I use Pearl acoustic drums, Zildjian cymbals, Zildjian sticks, Vic Firth sticks, Gibralter & Pearl hardware & a Premier bass drum pedal.
